Kicking off Coe’s 175th anniversary
Time to celebrate our 175th anniversary! The excitement will begin the week of August 17 with these milestones and kickoff events:
Lion Bridge Brewing Co. in Cedar Rapids is crafting a special beer, Kohawk Classic, in honor of the anniversary. Cases of Kohawk Classic will hit Cedar Rapids and other Iowa Hy-Vees in the middle of the week, and the beer will be on tap in select Cedar Rapids bars. Kohawk Classic is a Czech-style amber lager, voted on by attendees to our Day of Giving City Celebration back in April.
To celebrate the launch of Kohawk Classic, we will celebrate at Lion Bridge on August 21, 4:00 - 6:30 PM, with Ian’s Pizza, birthday cake and 175-themed prizes. All guests will receive a drink ticket to try Kohawk Classic or another beverage of their choice, and additional beverages will be available for purchase. This event is free to attend — just bring your Coe pride and register so we can look forward to celebrating and toasting to Coe’s demisemiseptcentennial together.
Further, a 175 pop-up shop will open online August 17. Join the fun by purchasing your own T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, pins and more. (We would love to see you in your 175 gear at the launch event and at this fall’s Homecoming, October 1-3.)
Don’t forget, our Oral History Project continues through the fall! If you haven’t yet shared your favorite Coe memories with Publishing Concepts (PCI), consider doing so by October. Your stories will be a vital part of our 175th anniversary celebration by ensuring our shared history is preserved for years to come. The second annual Kohawk Athletic Day of Giving was a success
Attend a Coe alum’s book signing in Cedar Rapids
Wes Bruns ’90 is a survivor of a carbon monoxide poisoning that took the lives of four of his family members one Christmas night. His new book, “When Life Changes The Game: A Story of Survival, Second Chances, and the Power of Perseverance,” details Wes’ experience, including the need to carry on and live life in honor of those who cannot. It touches on Wes’ 34 years of coaching high school athletes and his experience raising a family.
“When Life Changes The Game” releases August 20. Wes will be signing books at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids that day, 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
