Flunk Day 2025

Coe's tradition continued with DisCoe Fever on Flunk Day this year! Every year, classes are canceled for one day of fun. Students played games, enjoyed food from local food trucks and more. This is one of Coe's most beloved and unique college traditions, and Kohawks love the opportunity to celebrate a year of hard work by taking the day off.

April 3, 2025 was a day dedicated to celebrating the impact of Coe College with the college's annual Day of Giving. With 410 gifts coming in from around the United States, the college raised $276,590.38 to support students as they pursue their Coe education and the opportunities that come with it!

Thank you to everyone who gave back and proved that Kohawks truly are Rooted in Gratitude, Growing in Generosity.

Kosovo and Coe College collaborate with State of Iowa organizations to create diplomatic program

Starting this summer, two Coe College students will be the first to engage in an enlightening diplomatic program. The immersive learning experience, named the Global Pathways Program, is a Coe initiative developed in collaboration with the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in Des Moines, Iowa’s only foreign consulate.

Kosovo Internship Gathering

The students will work closely with the consulate and state organization staff to learn about citizen diplomacy efforts that strengthen the existing relationship between Kosovo and the State of Iowa. As part of the program, each student will pursue a summer-long project tailored to their passions and career path.

"This is an incredible opportunity for any student who is interested in international relations and communications and desires to expand international community engagement. It will be a unique first-hand look into how nations and states can work together to truly improve lives globally through mutual interests," said Barb Tupper '89, Associate Vice President of Development, C3 and Special Projects.

Dukuly '25 prepares to join Peace Corps

Kohawk Sangai Dukuly '25 is packing her bags as she prepares to join the Peace Corps in Sri Lanka in September, where she will be stationed for 27 months teaching English.

Dukuly-PhotoEver since returning from her study abroad experience in Thailand this past fall, she’s wanted to join the Peace Corps. In fact, Dukuly says she "applied immediately after [her] initial interest." While in Thailand, Dukuly traveled roads up and down the country, meeting as many different kinds of people as she could, and she hopes to continue having similar adventures in Sri Lanka.

The Peace Corps sends American volunteers to partnering countries with the mission of promoting peace and helping other countries meet their needs. Volunteers have a variety of options in which to serve – agriculture, education and health are just a few.

"I am looking forward to teaching and sharing life experiences with my community in Sri Lanka. I am also looking forward to living in a new place and expanding my worldview while impacting the community I reside in," Dukuly said.

Gaining acceptance into the Peace Corps is no easy feat. With an acceptance rate of around 23%, applicants must show relevant experience and knowledge, as well as a history and dedication to volunteer work. Past Kohawk selectees include Tristan Hines '18, Nandi Bukusi '18 and Molly Adams '12 who have served in countries from Colombia to Madagascar. Associate Professor of World Languages and Director of Off-Campus Study John Chaimov said, "It’s a fantastic honor for Coe and a great thing for Sangai that she has been selected."
