The Hampton Court Apartments have a prime location directly across from Stuart Hall and next to the Brewed Awakenings coffee shop.
Coe College purchased the Hampton Court Apartments in 2012 for conversion to housing for upper-class students. Although the Hampton Court Apartments are located just off campus, they are actually closer to Coe's main academic buildings than most of the college's residences.
Students living in these apartments enjoy the ambiance of traditional, urban buildings on First Avenue, the "main street" of Cedar Rapids.
The two buildings contain 39 apartment units that house approximately 80 students.
Coe invested more than $1 million to renovate these two historic apartment buildings, originally constructed in 1914 and 1923. The project included new kitchen countertops and cabinets, new appliances, energy-efficient windows, new lighting and a fresh coat of paint throughout. Bathrooms in the units feature new plumbing fixtures and tub surrounds. The original hardwood floors were uncovered and refinished, enhancing the overall appearance of the units.
