Coe SRE (Summer Research Experience)

The Coe College Summer Research Experience (SRE) provides a select number of students the opportunity to learn and develop research skills in Coe's state-of-the-art research laboratories.

Working under the guidance of a faculty mentor and alongside more than 30 skilled undergraduate researchers, SRE students will be active members of a research team. Students will also have the opportunity to present their research findings at the end of the program.

Research topics for this program include Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Material Science and Computational Biophysics. The students are encouraged to perform both computational and hands-on research. Research projects include developing novel particle detectors for various applications, analyzing the spacecraft data from Mars' ionosphere, developing novel ionically conductive material for new battery technologies, understanding the atomic structure of novel glasses, etc.

SRE is a nine-week program, starting the first week of June and ending in the first week of August. High school students who are completing their sophomore or junior year are eligible to apply. The cost of the program is $4,500 and includes student housing on Coe's campus during the program.

Every year maximum of three students are accepted for this program, if you are interested, please contact Professor Ugur Akgun at uakgun@coe.edu, before May 1 of each year.
