Loan Period

Coe Patrons

  • General Books - 28 days with one renewal
  • Whipple Browsing - 21 days
  • Periodicals - 3 days

Public/Alumni

  • General Books - 21 days with one renewal
  • Whipple Browsing - 21 days
  • Periodicals - cannot be checked out

Overdue fines

Replacement and processing fees will be charged for lost materials. Contact Head Of Circulation, Sandy Blanchard (sblancha@coe.edu, 319.399.8595), for further information.

Laptops & iPads

  • Check out is for 24 hours
  • Must show Coe ID

Interlibrary Loan

Loan Period

The loan period is determined by the lending library. It can be as short as 10 days or as long as 8 weeks. This date is prominently displayed on the label affixed to the front of the borrowed item. Renewals may be allowed but need to be approved by the lending library.

Replacement Fee

  • Lost books will be charged a processing fee plus the cost of book replacement as determined by the lending library.

Non-Coe Patrons

Coe's interlibrary loan system is not available to non-Coe patrons. Please see your public or school library for this service.


Archives material cannot be checked out


Media Technologies - Loan Periods

Reserve Items

Items placed on 2 Hour Reserve by instructors may only be viewed in the Media Technologies Department--they are checked out but may not leave the library. They are housed behind the Media Technologies desk and an employee must retrieve the title for you. Titles that are checked out less than two hours before closing must still be returned that same day; students are not allowed to take them home overnight.

Items may also be placed on reserve by instructors that may be checked out for 24 hours or 3 Days. These are also stored behind the Media Technologies desk and an employee must retrieve the title for you.

Collection

Our collection consists of over 10,000 DVDs and VHS tapes and is organized according to Library of Congress numbers. The loan period is seven days for all titles, including new titles. Titles may be renewed by phone or in person.

Replacement Policies

  • Replacement costs and processing fees will be charged for lost items. 
  • Patrons may not purchase a replacement for an item that has been "lost." The replacement cost will be charged to their account at the business office.
