Celebrating 175 Years of Coe

The 2026-27 academic year marks a historic milestone as Coe College celebrates 175 years of educating students, building community and shaping generations of Kohawks since 1851. Throughout the year, special events, traditions and new initiatives will honor our history while celebrating the people who continue to shape Coe's future.

Oral History Project

More than 2,000 alumni have already shared stories and memories through the Oral History Project. Story collection continues through October, helping preserve the voices, experiences and traditions that define the Coe community. Learn more about the Oral History Project here.

175th Anniversary Beer

In partnership with Lion Bridge Brewing Company, Coe is releasing a special anniversary beer called Kohawk Classic. The recipe was inspired by feedback from alumni and friends who participated in a tasting event in spring. Kohawk Classic hits Cedar Rapids and other Iowa HyVees the week of August 17 and can be found starting then in select local bars.

A launch party of Kohawk Classic on August 21, 4:00 - 6:30 PM, will celebrate 175 with a glass of the new beer, Ian's Pizza and breadsticks, birthday cake and a chance to enter to win themed prizes. The event is free to attend, and additional beverages will be available for purchase.
