Concert Choir
Concert Choir
Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Luke Lovegood, is open to all students at Coe College. The group performs on and off campus eight to ten times per year. In addition to traditional concerts in fall and spring, the group also sings the national anthem for local community events, performs as part of Coe’s annual Christmas celebrations, and often accompanies Orchestra Iowa, Iowa’s premier professional symphony orchestra.
Concert Choir regularly joins the Coe College Symphony Orchestra to perform the greatest major works from the choral and symphonic traditions. Recent masterworks include J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 140, Francis Poulenc's Stabat Mater, Felix Mendelssohn's Die erste Walpurgisnacht, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Students in Concert Choir have the opportunity to travel abroad, and the group most recently toured Ireland in 2019 and Costa Rica in 2016.

"College life can be very stressful, but being able to sing with people every day has been a great outlet for me. Being able to make beautiful music with others is such a satisfying and rewarding feeling, and I can’t imagine not having choir in my life to help me relieve some of my stress."

"I’ve really enjoyed that there is always something we can learn in choir, regardless of our individual singing abilities. The communal feeling, the instruction and the music generate an environment where we get to have fun and tackle a variety of music. Coe’s choirs are the most accepting places I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of, and I can’t picture my time at Coe without choir."
