Eligibility:

  • The Coe College Elementary Honor Bands are open to students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
    Most 4th graders will be placed in the Crimson Honor Band, while most 5th and 6th graders will be selected for the Gold Honor Band.
  • The Coe College Junior Honor Band is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
  • The Coe College Senior Honor Band is open to students in grades 9 through 12.

Based on the nominations, a committee at Coe College will select the bands: two Elementary Honor Bands (approximately 90 members each), one Junior Honor Band and one Senior Honor Band (approximately 90 members each). 6th grade students may be nominated for either the Elementary Honor Band or the Junior Honor Band. Every school submitting nominations will have at least one student selected.


Important Dates:

  • Friday, January 21, 2022 - Online nominations open

  • Monday, February 21, 2022 - Online nominations close

  • Saturday, February 26 - Monday, March 7, 2022 - Selections announced, music delivered

  • Sunday, April 3, 2022 - Junior and Senior Honor Band chair auditions and rehearsal

Junior Honor Band

  • 1:00 – Rehearsal on Sinclair Stage
  • 3:40 – Break
  • 3:50 – Return to stage and tune
  • 4:00 – Concert

Senior Honor Band

  • 1:00 – Rehearsal in Marquis Hall, Room 1
  • 3:45 – Break, move to Sinclair Balcony for first half of concert
  • 4:00 – Concert

2022 Conductors:

In addition to working with James Swearingen, students selected for the 15th Annual Coe College Elementary Honor Band will rehearse with Amy Kraeplin, band director in the Linn-Mar schools.  The Coe College Junior Honor Band will be directed by Steve Shanley and the Coe College Senior Honor Band will be directed by Dr. William S. Carson.


Fees:

There is a $15.00 registration fee for students selected to the Elementary Honor Band and a $25.00 fee for students selected to the Junior and Senior Honor Bands. This fee will include dinner on April 3 for the Junior and Senior Honor Bands and lunch for the Elementary Honor Bands on April 9.

All Honor Band participants will have an opportunity to get complimentary tickets to the Coe College Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performance on Saturday, April 9, at 8:00 pm, with guest conductor James Swearingen.


Concert tickets for the Honor Bands should be ordered in advance:

The website no longer has a $1 per ticket service charge. If you purchased your ticket while the $1 surcharge was in effect, you will be receiving a refund. We apologize for the inconvenience and, as you might expect, it will take a little while to process all the required refunds.

The Coe College Box Office is no longer able to sell tickets (or put tickets on hold) by phone. 

Tickets will be available for purchase in the lobby of Sinclair Auditorium before the concerts, but lines could be very long. We strongly recommend purchasing the tickets online in advance at coe.universitytickets.com.

General Admission $6.00 Under 18, Over 65, $4.00
