Kinesiology
Why Kinesiology at Coe?
Are you interested in a college education that teaches you about physical education, exercise science and sport?
With a kinesiology degree from Coe, students can pursue a variety of career paths including teaching physical education or health, coaching or fitness development with an emphasis on strength and conditioning or health promotion. An additional option is a sports management concentration in business administration
Physical Education Teaching Endorsement
Upon successful completion of the teaching certification courses, and student teaching, students will become certified K-6, 7-12 or K-12 Physical Education teachers. Students take courses in the Kinesiology Department and the Teacher Education Department. Students at Coe have the unique opportunity to get hands on teaching experiences as early as their sophomore year.
Health Teaching Endorsement
To become a certified health teacher, students must be accepted into the Teacher Education Program, complete the six health courses in the Kinesiology Department and meet the general licensure requirements.
Coaching Endorsement
Students who are pursuing a teaching degree can earn a coaching endorsement on their teaching certificate by earning a certification in an academic area, taking PE175 Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries and PE 201 Fundamentals of Coaching. Physical education teachers can earn their coaching endorsement by taking a Methods of Coaching sports course. (football, track and field, wrestling, baseball, swimming, basketball, volleyball, etc.).
Coaching Authorization
Students who are not planning to become teachers can earn a coaching authorization by taking PE-175 Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries and PE 201 Fundamentals of Coaching. Once these courses have been completed successfully, students apply to the state for a coaching authorization.
Fitness Development
Students interested in fitness development take a core set of eight classes that will develop an understanding of the scientific, physical, social and psychological foundation of movement. Students then choose to focus on Strength and Conditioning, Health and Wellness or a combination of both.

Strength and Conditioning
Students interested in the Strength and Conditioning track take a core set of eight classes that develop an understanding of the scientific, physical, social and psychological foundation of movement. In addition to the eight core courses (Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Physical Movement, Fundamentals of Exercise and Nutrition, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Measurement/Evaluation and Prescription in Physical Education, Organization and Administration of Physical Education, Health and Athletics and Physiology of Exercise) students will take Group Exercise, Weight Training, Movement Training, Program Design, Methods of Teaching Strength Training and Conditioning and Physiology of Exercise.

Health and Wellness
Students interested in the Health and Wellness take a core set of eight classes that will develop an understanding of the scientific, physical, social and psychological foundation of movement. In addition to the eight core courses (Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Physical Movement, Fundamentals of Exercise and Nutrition, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Measurements/Evaluation and Prescription in Physical Education, Organization and Administration of Physical Education, Health and Athletics and Physiology of Exercise) students will take Public and Consumer Health, Concepts of Individual Wellness and Substance Abuse.
Sports Management
Students interested in a career in sports management will major in business administration with a concentration in sports management.
