What is a health and society studies minor?

A minor in health and society studies is preparation to understand how our health care system is interconnected with all other systems — economic, political, social, judicial and education. You'll learn the ins and outs of health care, and explore various types of care provided and policies that affect it. All majors are needed in health care and as a health and society studies minor at Coe, you will have unlimited access to courses, faculty and networking.

The Dave and Janice McInally Center for Health & Society (CHS) is a unique $2.6 million initiative to educate and foster the health care heroes of tomorrow. Careers in the health care field are expected to grow by 2.4 million jobs by 2029 and includes roles across all disciplines, like accountants, medical illustrators, innovators, business owners and music therapists. Through individual advising, clinical exploration, internships and research, you'll be ready to understand the big picture of health care and which role within the complex system you'll be ready to excel in. The CHS is going to be your connection to cutting-edge technology, professionals, workshops, guest lectures and so much more.

The CHS and Coe campus is conveniently located across the street from the Cedar Rapids Regional MedQuarter (MedQ) giving you hundreds of hands-on health care experience opportunities right at your fingertips. Luckily, you also have access to C3: Creativity, Careers, Community, a dedicated space on campus to identify and assist you one-on-one with finding the right mentors and internships. It’s only natural that Coe has been a Top 25 Best Private Schools for Internships for 6 of the last 7 years according to The Princeton Review.

The health and society studies minor will expose you to a variety of perspectives through a natural sciences, social sciences and humanities lens. And, you will build a strong foundation for graduate studies or a career related to health professions. For decades, 100% of reporting graduating Kohawks have been employed or in graduate school within one year of graduation.
