Art & Art History Internships & Off-Campus Study

We encourage off-campus study and internships as complements to our programs — majors in both art and art history have interned at museums and studios in New York City, Washington D.C., Minneapolis and right here in Cedar Rapids. Many of our students study abroad in London, Florence and elsewhere.

Coe's well-established internship program places students in businesses and organizations in Cedar Rapids and other cities such as Chicago, New York or Washington, D.C. During their internship, students put into practice the classroom concepts they have learned in preparation for a career. Part-time internships allow students to complete an internship and take classes at the same time. Students can receive from one to four course credits for your internship.

Coe students and faculty have built relationships with community partners through department courses and Design Thinking workshops. For example, in 2017, the Social Practice course collaborated on several projects with Willis Dady Homeless Services. Design Thinking workshops have partnered with Brewed Awakenings and Family Caregivers Center of Mercy.
