Coe College partners with Google AI for Education Accelerator
Coe College has partnered with the Google AI for Education Accelerator to provide the most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools, resources and training for Kohawks, helping to prepare them for an increasingly AI-driven professional landscape. Students will be able to access Gemini Pro, NotebookLM and Veo, as well as career certificates and short courses as they integrate the technology into their education.
“This is similar to how AI is being used in professional settings — with intentionality. We strive to prepare students for the workplace, and knowing how to responsibly utilize AI to perform valuable tasks more efficiently and effectively can give Coe students a leg up,” said Coe College President David Hayes ’93.
Students will utilize AI in Guided Learning mode, a new function within Gemini Pro that acts as a learning companion guiding them with questions and step-by-step support instead of just providing the answer. Google collaborated with students, educators, researchers and learning experts to ensure the mode is helpful for understanding new concepts and is backed by learning science to help build understanding and critical thinking.
For example, using Gemini 2.5 Pro, students can work through complex math problems, structure arguments, get started on an essay, prep for a test and get homework help. In addition, Coe’s Center for Creativity, Careers & Community (C3) will play an integral part in student access to these resources.
The technology has applications beyond the student body. Many professors on campus are optimistic and studying its potential, not just for the classroom, but for their research as well.
“Faculty across all disciplines have begun to factor AI use, as well as its challenges and limitations, into their course design,” said Coe College Provost Angela Ziskowski. “To be able to utilize AI effectively is an emerging skill that will have applications everywhere and we want our students to be prepared.”
The integration is apparent in course offerings for this upcoming spring term. For example, “AI in the Business World” will be offered through the Stead Department of Business Administration and Economics, and “K-12 Teacher Training for AI” will be an offering for education majors.
With students’ success at the forefront, the focus on AI is necessary. It also supports strategic initiatives within the college’s Progress with Purpose Strategic Framework.
“Utilizing this technology builds practical skills students will need for high-paying careers today and tomorrow,” Hayes said. “By collaborating with industry leaders like Google, we are ensuring our students have the resources they need to innovate and succeed while fostering a spirit of innovation on campus.”
