Internships & Research
Research
The Senior Capstone course gives you the opportunity to participate in research, often in the context of a community-based class project. In addition to such course-related research, the department supports independent projects that students design and conduct under the direction of a faculty member, whether as the basis for a senior honors thesis or for presentation at the annual Student Research Symposium on campus.
Internships
Coe has strong relationships at local companies in Cedar Rapids that provide internship opportunities for sociology majors including Tanager Place, Hy-Vee human relations department and many nonprofits.
Off-Campus Opportunities
The Sociology Department highly recommends off-campus studies and internships in the field of sociology. Coe's New York City and Washington, D.C., terms are especially relevant off-campus experiences. During these semesters, students combine internships, independent study and hands-on experiences to complement their individual academic plans.
Individually designed internships provide an opportunity to meet educational and career goals through participation in a social service, business, industrial, research or health organization. The off-campus experiences that are right for you and your educational plan can be designed with the help of your faculty advisor.
