Become a Leader

Coe offers both Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC programs for students interested in gaining leadership skills and/or pursuing a military career. No commitment to the military is required for participation during the first two years.

Why ROTC at Coe?

Your liberal arts degree from Iowa’s fastest growing college is the perfect complement to additional skills and training acquired through ROTC. You’ll graduate ready to take on the world.

Army ROTC

Army ROTC is a college elective designed to be integrated with your regular curriculum and give you the skills needed to become an Army officer or a leader in any field. Any Coe student can take the first two years of Army ROTC without obligation...and learn to lead. Army ROTC also provides the path toward Army officership with numerous benefits. From training to full-tuition scholarships or a guaranteed job after college, Army ROTC offers a great deal if you’re interested in serving.

Air Force ROTC

Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps is an educational program designed to allow you to pursue a commission in the United States Air Force while pursuing a college degree. The purpose of the AFROTC program is to provide quality development so you may serve as an effective leader and officer upon entering the Air Force. AFROTC affords the opportunity to pursue a broad range of career fields including aviation-related jobs, law, space operations, medicine, intelligence, computer systems and engineering. The AFROTC program is open to all college students regardless of major or academic year.

Jeffrey Garcia

Jeffrey Garcia '18

"Our ROTC program is very different from many other schools. Our parent program is in the top 10 programs in the country, which gives us access to some of the best training and opportunities available to cadets. As a satellite school, we have a high degree of freedom to self determine, which means we have the chance to organize and run all of our own events."

Having interned at the NSA and Air Force Institute of Technology through ROTC, Jeffrey Garcia graduated from Coe with majors in chemistry and computer science. While you can learn discipline through sports, diligence through coursework and leadership through any number of clubs on campus, Jeffrey said ROTC is the one place he could practice all those skills. "And that is a combination that will make you stand out no matter what you do."
