Coe College Announces 2023-24 Marquis Series

For decades, the Coe College Marquis Series has brought engaging entertainers and lecturers to the Cedar Rapids community, including nationally recognized musicians, speakers and performers. This year’s lineup is no exception, and Coe is thrilled to continue to welcome the Cedar Rapids community to attend and enjoy. You won’t want to miss this year’s guests:

Reginald Dwayne Betts:
At 16 years old, Reginald Dwayne Betts was in prison serving a nine-year sentence. It’s not a story you would imagine ends with Yale Law School and a Macarthur Fellowship (also known as a genius grant), yet Betts’ inspiring perseverance has guided him to a career as a celebrated poet, lawyer and activist. Betts brings his incredible experiences to Coe College with his one-man performance, “Felon: An American Washi Tale.” This event is co-sponsored by the Prison Learning Initiative and the Coe College African American Studies program.

Each Marquis Series event is held in Sinclair Auditorium on Coe’s campus and there is no charge for admission for Coe students, faculty and staff. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for senior citizens (55 and older) and non-Coe students (18 and under). Attendees may purchase tickets online at www.coe.edu/why-coe/events/marquis-series.

The series was created by a gift from the estate of Sarah Marquis in honor of her father, Dr. John A. Marquis, who was president of Coe College from 1909-1920.
