Exchange for Change
Exchange for Change
Exchange for Change is a non-profit educational organization offering courses to incarcerated men and women in Florida’s prisons. In their “exchange” courses, they facilitate writing exchanges between incarcerated students and outside students on college and university campuses who correspond about shared course material. Coe started partnering with Exchange for Change (E4C) in 2022 with powerful results for both inside and outside students. There is one E4C class running in Spring 2023 and we expect to be able to offer more E4C courses going forward. Coe faculty members interested in incorporating E4C into a class should contact Gina Hausknecht for more information.
"Participating in the Exchange for Change program was an awesome experience. It allowed me to understand my class's content in an entirely different way than I would have if I hadn't participated in the program. I would recommend participating in this program to all my peers. It gives you the chance to understand the incarceration system in an eye-opening way and opens you to the perspectives of those within it."

"I gained so much insight into the world of incarceration; this not only helped me connect more to readings from our course material but also helped me learn how to have a greater capacity for grace, humility, and kindness for those who stand outside my own realm of experiences."
