Classical Studies

“Assistant Professor of History Angela Ziskowski and Associate Professor of History Bethany Keenan are both very passionate about their jobs, and it shows in their teaching. They make material engaging, and they add personal flair to their classes.”

-Lotukalafi Ahomana ’19

Lotukalafi came to Coe for the small community and great opportunities. He had no idea he would become a history major and classical studies minor until taking a course in classical studies and finding his passion here at Coe.

Why Classical Studies at Coe?

The classical studies minor at Coe will transport you to ancient Greece and Rome. Our small class sizes (an average of 16 students) makes it easy for you to have one-on-one attention with faculty members as you dive into mythology, Greek and Latin through courses in literature, language, art, history, philosophy, religion and archeology.

While your classes will be challenging and engaging, you’ll also learn from traveling the world. 100% of Coe students are guaranteed an internship, research or off-campus study program. Actually, Associate Professor of History Angela Ziskowski regularly leads Kohawks through a summer trip to an archeological excavation and artifact study in Greece. And with more than 40 off-campus study opportunities, you have plenty of destinations to choose from across the country and around the world.
