A typical four-year plan for a student majoring in American Studies looks something like this.
Keep in mind that most students take four courses per semester. There is considerable flexibility, which allows for additional majors and minors. For more details, refer to the college catalog.
First Year
- AMS 107 Introduction to American Studies
- HIS 145 History of the United States to 1865
- HIS 155 History of the United States Since 1865
Second Year
- AMS 217 Topics in American Studies: United States Pluralism
- American literature course from the English department
- AMS 100 Interdisciplinary Studies Colloquium (0.2 credit)
Third Year
- 3 additional courses focusing on American culture, chosen in consultation with American Studies faculty
- AMS 100 Interdisciplinary Studies Colloquium (0.2 credit)
Fourth Year
- 2 additional courses focusing on American culture, chosen in consultation with American Studies faculty
- AMS 400 Integrative American Studies
