30 Seconds

The Theatre Arts Department announces the winner of Coe's National Playwriting Contest and Festival, established in 1993 as a biennial event. New York playwright Jayne Deely's play 30 Seconds. was selected as the winner from close to 100 scripts submitted from across the country. It is a play about memory that asks if we're all just seeing what we want to see and challenges us to look at who we're willing to believe and why. 30 Seconds will be presented in collaboration with Mirrorbox Theatre in a virtual reading on Friday, March 19 at 8:00 pm. The event is FREE. Visit Mirrorbox Theatre to register for viewing. Professor of Theatre Arts Dennis Barnett will direct the reading composed of Coe students and actors from New York, St. Louis and Cedar Rapids. Jayne Deely will be in virtual residence the week of March 15 as a guest artist in playwriting classes and virtual workshops headed up by Coe's Playwriting instructor Kate Aspengren who also led the play selection process.
