Head of Reference

The Coe College Stewart Memorial Library is looking for an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented librarian to head their Reference department.

The Head of Reference provides leadership for the Reference/ILL Department. Major responsibilities include coordinating and teaching information literacy and research instruction, providing reference services, maintaining the library’s database subscriptions and website, developing the collection and serving as the Library liaison to the Learning Commons.

This is a full time, non-tenured position with faculty rank. This position is open until filled and people from under-represented populations are encouraged to apply.


  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Three years of experience in reference in an academic library preferred.
  • College degree or experience in the social sciences.
  • Coursework or experience in library instruction.
  • Knowledge of web page design and authoring software preferred.
  • Supervisory or administrative experience; broad background in the liberal arts.
  • Successful completion of a background check in accordance with Coe College policy.
