Visiting Assistant Professor of Music – Instrumental Music

Coe College seeks qualified applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music – Instrumental Music.

This is a one-year appointment with the possibility for renewal. The position begins August 22, 2022.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will oversee either the string/orchestra program or the instrumental jazz program. Teaching duties will include leading either the orchestra or the jazz band. Expectations include actively recruiting students for the music program, building and developing the string or jazz program, and establishing positive relationships with area school music educators. Additional responsibilities may include teaching music education courses, conducting, music history or general education courses, dependent upon the candidate’s experience, interests and departmental needs.

QUALIFICATIONS  

A master’s degree in music is required and an earned doctorate or ABD is preferred. A degree in music education, three or more years of successful PK-12 teaching experience and college-level teaching experience are preferred. Successful candidates will provide experience and proven excellence leading a string or instrumental jazz program. Qualified terminal degrees include D.M.A., D.A., Ed.D., Ph.D. in music or Ph.D. in an education-related field.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Music Department is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The department offers several degree options for its students, including Bachelor of Arts in Music (with the option to add emphases in Jazz, Musical Theater, Music Industry or Pre-Music Therapy), Bachelor of Music in Music Education (instrumental or vocal), Bachelor of Music in Performance (instrumental or vocal) and Bachelor of Music in Composition. The department also offers the opportunity for students to minor in music.
