Teaching & Engagement Librarian

The Coe College Stewart Memorial Library is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching & Engagement Librarian who is motivated to teach, investigate new tools, and collaborate with faculty, students, and other librarians to provide library and information literacy instruction and research assistance. This faculty librarian position reports to the Director of Library Services.

The Teaching & Engagement Librarian works to maintain and expand the library’s visibility and involvement on Coe’s campus to ensure all students and faculty have an awareness of the services offered by Stewart Memorial Library and Librarians, in particular. They proactively partner across the library and the institution to integrate information literacy into the broader curriculum, develop outreach initiatives, corresponding inclusive programming, as well as maintain a social media presence. Additionally, they oversee the MakerStudio and virtual reality as forms of supplemental student resources.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads the design and delivery of the library’s student-centered instructional services
  • Works with first year faculty and others on attainment of college-wide informational literacy goals
  • Proactively partners with faculty in liaison departments to integrate information literacy workshops and librarian involvement into the broader curriculum
  • Designs, implements, and analyzes assessment of teaching and learning
  • Oversees the library’s digital and technology-based learning resources including virtual reality space and the MakerStudio
  • Works closely with the reference services team to provide scheduled one-on-one and drop in research consultations
  • Develops inclusive outreach initiatives, including maintaining a robust social media presence
  • Fosters campus-wide partnerships with other departments and student organizations to ensure the library’s role in student success
  • Supports the assessment of library services and collections
  • Participates in library-wide conversations related to planning, goal setting, and projects to improve processes, services, and collections

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to build upon the success of the library's current instruction & outreach programs, have a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and will manifest a commitment to student success.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree required in library/information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Academic library experience or demonstrated coursework in this area required
  • Familiarity with current trends, standards, and technologies in information literacy and library instruction required

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:


Position Specific:

  • Understanding of information literacy concepts and trends, including the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy
  • Teaching and presentation software experience
  • Demonstrated experience with digital initiatives and scholarship
  • Flexibility to take on new responsibilities in a changing environment

Desired:

  • Working knowledge of major research databases
  • Knowledge of technology innovations in libraries, specifically with regard to makerspaces and virtual reality
  • Experience providing inclusive library programming to an academic community
  • Social media and outreach experience
  • Supervisory and managerial experience
