Assistant Professor of Glass Science

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2025.

All areas of research related to glassy materials are welcome, including structure, property relationships, simulation and modeling to advanced spectroscopy, fibers, bioglasses, and exotic manufacturing. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in teaching in a liberal arts setting.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Physical Chemistry, or allied disciplines, with a focus in glass research (in exceptional cases ABD will be considered).
  • Evidence of strong teaching skills with ability to teach undergraduate physics courses.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States as visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship.

 Coe College Physics Department:

We have a four-decades-long externally funded glass research program, with a special emphasis on the structural characterization and physical properties of oxide glasses. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to benefit from our glass making and modern characterization laboratories, equipped with various furnaces, calorimeters (including TMA and high temperature STA), pycnometers, levitator, SEM, AFM, Raman, EIS and FTIR spectrometers, and other instrumentation. The candidate will be expected to expand this nationally recognized research program that is accessible to undergraduates. The Coe College Physics Department has been growing over the last decade, and currently hosts over 80 majors while graduating 15-20 students per year.
