Department Profile

Faculty are experienced educators and researchers. We believe the most effective preparation for teaching is one that combines a liberal arts education with courses in the theory and practice of teaching. Coe students experience multiple field placements to develop content knowledge, instructional approaches, and professional dispositions for teaching. Pre-service teachers earn at least 120 experiential hours in K-12 classrooms prior to student teaching. Approximately 30 students graduate each year with a readiness to begin careers with K-12 schools. Additionally, integrated within Coe’s liberal arts curriculum, Coe’s education coursework supports student pursuits of complementary pathways in teaching and learning that include graduate school, private sector, non-profits, and human services.
