Assistant Professor of Education

The Education Department at Coe College invites applications from reflective educators dedicated to preparing the next generation of K-12 teachers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in teaching at a liberal arts institution and a background commensurate with teaching one or more of our core courses (Foundations of Education, Human Relations, Exceptional Learners). We are interested in candidates with three or more years of teaching experience at the secondary level (grades 7-12) and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We seek a candidate who will enhance our team through their instructional expertise, their experience collaborating within schools and communities and their active research in the field. Required qualifications

  • Current 7-12 teaching license
  • Three or more years’ teaching experience at the secondary level (any subject area)
  • Expertise in instructional decision making and active reflection
  • Experience making positive contributions within a collaborative environment 
  • Strong commitment to the liberal arts
  • Experience engaging with other educators within and/or across schools and communities (educational specialists, local AEAs, advisory boards, community organizations and institutions and the like)
  • ABD in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership or a related field, with completion by August 2024
  • Demonstrated potential to teach Foundations of Education, Human Relations and/or Exceptional Learners effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI
  • Active scholarly engagement in the education field (presentations at professional conferences; participation in professional meetings, school reform initiatives, action research; publications; and the like)

Preferred qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership or a related field
  • Expertise in teaching literacy and/or math
  • Leadership experience within an educational community (as teacher leader, curriculum specialist, teacher mentor, department chair and the like)
  • Scholarship reflective of current developments in the field and active engagement in K-12 learning environments
