Course Requirements - German

Four-Year Plan - German

The following represents one of many paths students can take to complete a major in German. Depending on the amount of German you have taken before beginning at Coe, you may begin at different levels. A grade of “C” or higher must be received in all courses counted toward the German major.

Note that students typically take four courses per semester for a total of eight each year. Check the Coe catalog to review all of your options.

First Year

  • GER-215 Intermediate German 
  • GER-315 German Composition and Conversation

Second Year

  • GER-325 Texts in Social Context
  • GER-405 Technology and Modernity

Third Year

  • Study abroad highly recommended (up to 3 credits toward the major)
  • GER-455 Deutsch-Amerika

Fourth Year

  • GER-485 Topics in German Literature
  • GER-475 Nation and Narration
