Upward Bound

Upward Bound

The Upward Bound Program is one of the Federal TRiO Programs funded by the U. S. Department of Education. The goal of the program is to identify high school aged students who want to go to college, but experience roadblocks to accomplishing that goal. The Coe College Upward Bound Program serves students who attend the Four Cedar Rapids High Schools, as well as Anamosa and Prairie.

To be eligible for admission to the program, a student must be in ninth grade or tenth grade. The student must come from a home where neither parent, nor the parent a student lives with has a four year college degree, and their family's taxable income must fall within Federal guidelines. Furthermore, the student must have an academic need for the program.

The programs mission is to provide educational, cultural and social experiences that help prepare students to not only enter college, but to successfully complete their program of study and graduate. The Coe College Upward Bound Program has two components: the school year component and the summer component.
