Service involvement helps students to become better leaders and
well-rounded scholars as well as citizens in a global community.
Undersding the benefits of service to students, Coe College is
committed to providing students with a diverse range of opportunities
from community service and work within area schools to on-campus
service and club involvement. Engagement in these areas will lead
to a greater sense of community and empower students to develop
the skills they need to be successful when they leave Coe College,
and thus becoming individual contributors to their future communities.
Hurricane Katrina - alternative Spring Break
adventure
Sixty people affiliated with Coe College – including 41
students – spent Spring Break working in Gulfport and Biloxi,
Miss., March 5-10, 2006 to bring hope and healing to a region
still reeling from the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.
The group stayed at a work camp organized by Presbyterian Disaster
Assistance at Orange Grove Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. From
there, teams were dispatched to assist with clean-up, recovery
and rebuilding efforts.
A Web site was created to document the experience and to inform
visitors about the region's ongoing need for help. Please
visit katrina.coe.edu.
