How to Use PuTTY
This document describes how to use the Windows software program
PuTTY to transfer a file to and from your network drive to a server.
If you have questions, contact Peggy Knott in Academic
Computing (8877).
Click on Start, Programs, COE Specialty Software, PuTTY.
Fill in the information requested on the PuTTY Configuration window.
Host Name: jade.coe.edu
Port: 22
Protocol: Click the SSH radio button for secure shell
access
Saved Sessions: Jade
Click on Save
To open a session, either select the saved session (Jade) by double-clicking
its name in the Saved Sessions box, or type in
the name of a new host in the Host Name box.
You may see a warning advising you that the host’s key is
not cached. Click Yes to accept the key and continue.

You will now get a console window with a black background. Use
your username and the password you were assigned to log in. You
will be asked to enter your old password then your new password
twice. The password must be at least seven characters
in length and one must be a number. Press enter after
typing each password. You will be told if the password changing
was successful or not. At that point you can type the word exit
to leave the program.
NOTE: If you see a $ sign, instead of being asked to change your
password, type passwd and press enter.
The change password screen will then appear.
