What activities are you involved in?
Greek Life, Coe Alliance, Environmental Club, Student Ambassadors, Coexist, Coe Review, Residence Life and the Writing Center.

Why did you decide to attend Coe?
To be honest, it was a gut feeling. I put Coe on the backburner all through my college search but when it came time to pick, I couldn't find anything "wrong" with Coe. It was sort of an epiphany, it just clicked and I thought, "duh, Coe has been the place for me all along."

What is the best part of being a Kohawk?
Each student has something amazing to offer and it is evident with everyone you pass in the span of a day.

What do you remember most from your first year?
The morning that shack-a-thon was starting, everyone on the quad was social and energetic about sleeping in boxes. I spent the whole morning doing homework and getting to know students that were not my year. It was the first moment I sincerely felt like just another college student.

Describe your favorite interaction with a professor.
After my first test at college, the professor invited students to meet with her to gain some points. When I met with the professor in her office, she took the time to let me explain my answers and even though I was still wrong, the experience was unlike any in high school. I could tell my professor truly cared that I learned the material and had not just memorized it for the test.

What advice would you give to a prospective student considering Coe?
Make lists, oh man, make tons of lists. What you want to do, what you have to do. And schedule in free time!

What do you like to do in your free time?
Be outside. Listen to music.

What is it like living in Cedar Rapids?
There are nifty little nature sites - you just have to look for them.

Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it?
Captain, because my initials are "SS" and it sounds like the name of a ship.

What was the best part of being a sophomore?
I was able to stay true to how I need to study, not just how I wish I could study.

How would your friends describe your personality?
Empathetic, ubiquitous and enthusiastic.
