Phi Beta Kappa
Phi Beta Kappa is the most widely recognized honorary society in higher education. Only about 10 percent of the nation's institutions of higher learning have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and only about 10 percent of the arts and sciences graduates of these distinguished institutions are selected for Phi Beta Kappa membership. (Coe is one of five private colleges and universities in the state of Iowa to host a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.) The ideal Phi Beta Kappa member has demonstrated intellectual integrity, tolerance for other views, and a broad range of academic interests.
