Coe College will host the 27th annualĀ Tri-State Undergraduate Psychology Conference on Saturday, Nov. 4 at various locations on the campus. Both the keynote address and the poster sessions are open to the public at no charge.

The keynote address is entitled "Neural Systems Underlying the Processing of Surprising Events and Their Effects on Behavior and Cognition," beginning at 11 a.m. in Cherry Auditorium of Peterson Hall. It will be presented by Jan Wessel, assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences/neurology in the Departments of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Neurology and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute at the University of Iowa.

The afternoon program includes two poster sessions beginning at 1:20 p.m., during which students will discuss their research in the lower level of Gage Memorial Union.

The Tri-State Undergraduate Psychology Conference features research conducted by undergraduates from 15-20 colleges in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The conference currently rotates between the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Rockford University in Illinois, Loras College and Coe College. The 2017 conference will be the third time that Coe has hosted the event.

Along with the keynote address, the morning session features a panel discussing careers in psychology for those with a bachelor's degree, with a second panel discussing graduate school tips. Concurrent to the poster sessions there will be a graduate school fair with a number of graduate programs from the Midwest presenting information about their respective programs.
