Comic and television personality W. Kamau Bell will perform in a Coe College Marquis Series event on Saturday, March 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium.
Bell is a sociopolitical comedian who is the host of the CNN docuseries, "United Shades of America." He may be best known for his critically acclaimed FX comedy series, "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell."
Marquis Series patrons can purchase individual tickets for $15, $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at coe.edu/marquis or by calling the Cox Box Office at 319-399-8600, Monday - Friday, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The New York Times called Bell "the most promising new talent in political comedy in many years." Bell is also the host of "Kamau Right Now!", a public radio talk show that airs on KALW in San Francisco.
"Totally Biased" was executive produced by Chris Rock, who became a fan after seeing a performance of Kamau's one-man show, "The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour," which he will be performing on the Sinclair stage. (Please note that this performance will likely include adult themes and strong language, and it is intended for mature audiences only.)
Bell sits on the advisory board of Race Forward, a racial justice think tank, and Hollaback, a non-profit movement to end street harassment. Bell is also proud to be the ACLU's Ambassador of Social Justice.
The Coe College Lecture and Performance Series is funded in part by a gift from the estate of Sarah Marquis in honor of her father, Dr. John A. Marquis, who was president of Coe College from 1909-1920. The purpose of the series is to bring entertainment and educational experiences to the Coe campus for the benefit of the entire community.
