The Coe College Concert Band, Jazz Band and new Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform a fall concert on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of original Star Trek television series, the concert band will perform "Vulcan," a new composition by Cedar Rapids native Michael Daugherty, who received an honorary doctorate from Coe in 2012. The band will also perform "Gabriel's Oboe" from the motion picture "The Mission," featuring Coe instructor Lesley Fleer on oboe. Rounding out the concert will be the Gershwin classic "Someone to Watch Over Me," featuring Coe instructor Lynne Rothrock on voice. This semester, the Coe Concert Band is under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Steve Shanley.

The Coe Jazz Band will perform music by Count Basie, Trombone Shorty and Ray Charles, also under Shanley's direction.

This concert will also feature the premiere performance of the Coe Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a newly formed group under the direction of Lynne Rothrock.
