No stranger to Eastern Iowa audiences, celebrated musician Gustavo Romero returns to Coe College for a piano recital featuring the works of Schumann, Lavista, Dutilleux, Ginastera and Chopin. The concert will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, beginning at 3 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Romero has a stellar reputation for both the technical brilliance and interpretive depth of his playing, as well as his commitment to an in-depth exploration of individual composers. He has performed in the world's leading concert halls. The musician regularly performs with leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Pops and others worldwide.
The Washington Post has called Romero "a pianist of genius." He has been featured by National Public Radio, BBC Radio and Radio France. A feature film about his life and artistry was produced in 2012 by The Snapshots Music and Art Foundation, entitled "Portrait in Piano." His recordings include works by Chopin, Mompou, Debussy, Albeniz, Scarlatti and the five Beethoven concerti with the English Chamber Orchestra.
Romero is a graduate of the Julliard School and serves as a professor of piano at the University of North Texas at Denton.
The performance is sponsored by Friends of Music at Coe. For more information, call 319-399-8000.
