One of the world's greatest soccer players of all time, Abby Wambach, will be the speaker for the 13th Coe College Contemporary Issues Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Eby Fieldhouse. Wambach is the number one all-time leading scorer in international soccer history with 184 career goals. She is also a leading voice for women's sports as well as for her generation of female soccer players and athletes.

Wambach is a double Olympic gold medalist (2004 and 2012), FIFA Women's World Cup champion, and the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year. A six-time winner of the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award, Wambach has been a regular on the U.S. women's national soccer team since 2003. As a forward, Wambach is the highest all-time goal scorer for the U.S. team and holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players, with a total of 184. In May 2015, she was included in Time Magazine's Time 100 list as one of the most influential people in the world. Wambach has also played for several professional soccer teams during her career.
After announcing her retirement in October, Wambach appeared in her final game in December when the U.S. played the last match of its 10-game Victory Tour following the team's win at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Among many other organizations, Wambach has done philanthropic work for the Epilepsy Foundation and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She is an ambassador for Athlete Ally, a non-profit organization that focuses on ending homophobia and transphobia in sports. In 2013, Wambach married her longtime partner, Sarah Huffman, who is also a nationally recognized soccer player.
