The spring gallery season at Coe College begins with two exhibitions by Art Department faculty. Paintings will be exhibited by Marvin D. Cone Professor of Art Peter Thompson, while time-based media will be featured by Assistant Professor of Art David Webber.
The exhibitions will be on display in the Marvin Cone and Eaton-Buchan Galleries of Sinclair Auditorium, with an opening reception in the Sinclair lobby on Friday, Jan. 16, from 5 - 7 p.m. The exhibits are free and open to the public, with gallery hours from 4 - 6 p.m. daily from Saturday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 8.
Since 1993, Thompson has taught painting and drawing at Coe, and he is known for his portrait work. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees as well as an MFA from the University of Iowa. Thompson's show entitled "Studies: Before the Subject and After the Fact" is a selection of landscape paintings he created following a sabbatical trip to Arles, France, during the summer of 2014.
Specializing in digital art, filmmaking and animation, Webber joined the Coe art faculty in 2012. He received his BFA from Tufts University and an MFA from Alfred University. Webber's work will consist of a group of projection pieces, some of which include hand-painted film.
