Coe College launches "Make It Happen" marketing initiative with new logo, theme and messaging

Coe College is launching a new marketing and visibility initiative, including a new logo, theme and messaging. Coe officials are confident the "Make It Happen" marketing plan will build upon the positive momentum and growth the college has experienced in recent years.

In the fall of 2013, a Marketing Advisory Committee representing faculty, staff and students was formed with the goal of creating a new marketing plan for the college. Following the analysis of market research and on-campus discussion that took place during the past academic year, three key message points were selected for the marketing effort. Coe will emphasize its academic reputation, student-centered environment, and career opportunities associated with its Cedar Rapids location.

To complement the key message points, the Marketing Advisory Committee developed a new theme for Coe, based on the results of research conducted with prospective and current students. The theme is "Coe makes it possible. You make it happen." It is intended to highlight the numerous academic, co-curricular and leadership opportunities offered by the college, while also emphasizing the responsibility of the students to take advantage of these possibilities for ultimate success.

In terms of graphical elements to support the brand, the Coe Victory Bell was chosen as the symbol to be incorporated into the Coe logo, within the framework of the traditional Coe shield. The traditional Coe shield has roots dating back to the family shield of Daniel Coe, the namesake of the college. The new logo symbolizes the college’s long-standing reputation for academic excellence, coupled with what has become one of Coe's most meaningful traditions. Since the early 1990s, all Coe students have rung the Victory Bell during their first day on campus and again on Commencement day, symbolizing the entire four-year Coe experience. The year of Coe's founding - 1851 - is also incorporated into the new logo.

"We are pleased to begin this new Coe marketing initiative," said Coe President David McInally. "Through creating a fresh visual look and effective messaging for the college, we now have an enhanced platform to raise awareness of Coe locally, regionally and nationally."
