The period instrument duo Adastra will perform in concert at Coe College on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Daehler-Kitchin Auditorium of Marquis Hall. Adastra is also performing at Coe’s recital hour in Daehler-Kitchen on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 2:30 p.m. Both performances are free and open to the public at no charge.
Featuring two faculty members from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music - Jennifer Roig-Francoli, baroque violin and Vivian Montgomery, harpsichord - Adastra communicates the spirit of enlightenment through engaging performances of baroque and classical music on historical instruments. The duo injects energy and passion into the performance of works from the early 17th century through the early romantic era.
At Coe, Adastra will perform solos and duets featuring the music of Bach, Corelli, Biber, Fontana, de la Guerre, Leclair and A. Scarlatti.
The duo strives to make each performance a unique event full of the creative mystery and excitement of the present moment. Each audience member is valued and included as an integral and essential partner in the reception of the musical message, which is viewed as the offering of a fleeting and irreproducible musical work of art. Within the formal beauty and structured design of the baroque and classical idioms, the creative spontaneity of the present moment means that every performance is completely free, fresh and unpredictable. No two performances by Adastra are ever the same, and every performance will be unlike anything audiences have ever heard before.
This concert is sponsored by the Naxera Fund for Music established by Max Naxera, Coe class of 1951, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids and supporter of music and the arts at Coe College and throughout the community.
