The Coe College Symphony Orchestra and Concert Choir will present a special concert featuring Mozart’s “Requiem” on Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The “Requiem” is universally recognized as one of the greatest choral masterpieces of all time. Commissioned by Count Franz von Walsegg-Stuppach for his wife, who died in February of 1791, the “Requiem” is an excellent example of liturgical music encapsulated within the context of a concert piece. The work was left unfinished at Mozart’s death in December 1791. It was completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr, with many composers making minor contributions to the finished work.
Featured soloists include Karan Kanakis (soprano), Tara Warfield (alto), Jeff Bieber (tenor), Jacob Lassetter (baritone) and College Organist Brett Wolgast. The “Requiem” will be directed by Coe Symphony Orchestra Director Joseph Dangerfield, who has worked jointly with Coe Concert Choir Director Marc Falk in preparation for the concert.
