The opening art show of the 2010-2011 season at Coe College features an exhibition series highlighting the creative achievements of the college's Art Department faculty. The featured artists include John Beckelman, Lucy Goodson, Peter Thompson, Priscilla Steele, Shannon Kennedy, Kathleen Caraccio and Jennifer Rogers.
The exhibits open in conjunction with a reception in the Sinclair Auditorium lobby on Friday, Sept. 24, from 5 - 7 p.m. The artwork will continue to be on display from Sept. 25 through Oct. 17 from 3-5 p.m. daily in the Marvin Cone and Eaton-Buchan Galleries of Sinclair on the Coe campus. The reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
According to gallery director and instructor of art Jennifer Rogers, the exhibit represents the first time in a decade that Coe faculty has exhibited their work together in the Sinclair Galleries. Therefore, the show offers an opportunity to experience firsthand the vast technical, conceptual and creative abilities that help define the department.
"The Coe art faculty are a diverse and dynamic group. You could easily categorize them by their differences: artistic medium, aesthetic sensibility, personality, and organizational skills. Despite these rich and complex differences, it is the commonalities that create a strong and vigorous department. They all maintain active studio practices, producing and exhibiting work nationally," said Rogers. "In addition, these artists are all outstanding teachers, working together to create a challenging and highly motivated educational experience. They are exceptional individuals and when brought together create an agile, vibrant artistic community full of fresh ideas, lively discussions, and considerable insight."
