The purpose of math club is to expose students to mathematics that they would not otherwise be exposed to as a result of Coe's relatively small size. We are able to invite speakers from a variety of mathematical areas in order to broaden the understanding of both the wide variety of topics and the potential applications of math. Understanding of these greatly benefits the students, as it opens their eyes to the variety of opportunities available through the study of math. It also serves to create a community of people interested in math, without the classification of a study group; we host fun events, from game nights to pi day. Additionally, we provide opportunities for students to participate in off-campus competitions and conferences, such as the Iowa Mathematical Modelling Competition, the Midwestern Undergraduate Mathematics Symposium, the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Math, and many more.
