One year after the public announcement of the Defining Moment Campaign, Coe finds itself in very interesting times, indeed. Despite the flood of '08, and economic turbulence throughout the world, supporters have pushed campaign totals to $64 million, surpassing commitments to the college's largest previous effort, the One by One Campaign for Coe. In the twelve months since the "kickoff," (see video above) alumni and friends have contributed $9 million, proving that, despite adversity, the Kohawk spirit reigns supreme.

Coe College is at a defining moment in its history, one that presents the institution with an opportunity of compelling importance. Owing to a unique set of circumstances, Coe's alumni and friends have a chance to help vault the college forward in ways that may have seemed unimaginable just a short time ago. It is a moment that comes to a college perhaps only once in its history. It is a defining moment, which those who love Coe College must seize.
The passing of K. Raymond Clark in 2005 made Coe the beneficiary of an unparalleled gift of $18 million to its earning endowment, providing Coe with a foundation of financial security. However, Mr. Clark's gift is not solely sufficient to springboard the college into a new era of distinction for outright academic achievement.
Coe's vision for the future is simple, yet powerful - to break out of the pack of good liberal arts schools with which it has traditionally competed and to establish itself as one of a small number of premier national institutions. To take such a step will require the college to embark on a program of continuous enhancement of its academic program, one focused on the creation of world-class educational programs and experiences. By moving to the next level of academic quality, Coe will gain an increasing reputation for excellence. Fortunately, at this defining moment Coe is poised to make just such a move. What will be required for Coe to make this leap?
"Defining Moment: The Campaign for Coe" has four primary areas of focus. Most important among these, Coe must increase the size of its endowment. Additionally, it must enlarge and improve its science facilities, expand the campus space available for athletics and recreation, and promote the continuing growth of the Coe Fund.
Support the Defining Moment Campaign
All of these priorities serve the overarching purpose of the Defining Moment Campaign: to achieve a level of academic excellence at Coe unparalleled in the institution's history, and to set us apart from colleges with which we presently compete. The college calls on all who cherish the role Coe has played in the past, who value the kind of education it currently offers, and who can envision that large role Coe can play in the future to step forward.
