Coe College alumnus Steven Hicks will read from and sign copies of his debut novels "The Gleaner" and "The Fall of Adam" at a reception at Coe on Friday, April 17.

Hicks, a Mississippi advertising executive for 35 years before becoming a novelist, will read selections from and sign copies of his books from 4-5 p.m. in Perrine Gallery of Stewart Memorial Library. Born in Omaha, Neb., Hicks attended Coe in the early 1970s. He has lived in Jackson, Miss., since 1974 and makes his second home in New Orleans.

"The Gleaner" is at once a story of the transitional South's changing social mores and the bounty of life waiting to be gathered amidst the leavings of death. At 242 pages, the book is available in paperback for $15.95. ISBN 9781438243436.

"The Fall of Adam" is a comedy about "good ol' girls, bad ol' boys and worse ol' advertising." At 268 pages, the book is available in paperback for $16.95. ISBN 9781438282886.

Both books were self-published using CreateSpace, a subsidiary of Amazon.com. The books are available through Amazon.com and the Coe College Book Store.

Copies of both books will be available for purchase at the book signing, which is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
