Classical concert pianist Gustavo Romero will perform a recital at Coe College on Sunday, Oct. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium.  The event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required.

For the past 12 years, Romero has focused each recital on an individual composer.  His upcoming performance at Coe will feature the work of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt in celebration of the 220th anniversary of his birth. Romero’s performance will feature Lizst’s “Piano Sonata in B Minor,” along with a selection of other compositions.

A San Diego native, Romero is a Julliard School graduate and has performed in more than 20 countries. Known for his technical brilliance and interpretive depth, Romero has been a featured piano soloist with renowned groups such as the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, New Japan Philharmonic, Shanghai Orchestra, and many more. When he is not touring and performing, Romero serves as a professor of piano at the University of North Texas.

Romero was last seen at Coe in a duet performance with Viennese pianist Massimo Somenzi in 2006.  He has also appeared with the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, at the University of Iowa, and more recently with the Quad Cities Symphony in the fall of 2010.

This event is sponsored by Friends of Music at Coe.  For more information, go to www.coe.edu or call 399-8521.
