"Keats defines negative capability as humankind's capacity for existing in a state of uncertainty, ‘without any irritable reaching after facts and reason,'" noted Coe Gallery Director Mariah Dekkenga. "The objective for many contemporary artists is not to find conclusive meaning in any explicit or even implicit way - but instead to underscore the indeterminate nature of existence in general. The result is a certain open-endedness that resists conclusion, while challenging conventions that prioritize craft and narration."
