What activities are you involved in?
I am in Student Senate, Nursing Club, am a Student Ambassador and I often overnight host prospective Coe students.
Why did you decide to attend Coe?
I chose Coe because of the welcoming atmosphere. Coe is filled with professors and people who truly want you to succeed. I am going to be a sophomore and the experiences I have had are amazing. I have met friends I will have for a lifetime and the opportunities Coe has to offer are endless.
What is the best part of being a Kohawk?
Waking up every day knowing that everyone here accepts you for who you are.
What do you remember most from your first year?
As a first year, the most memorable moment was the Opening Convocation. The ending statement was, "The best years of your life begin here." At that very moment, chills went down my arms. After hearing that, I knew Coe College was perfect for me.
Describe your favorite interaction with a professor.
I was unsure of what to expect on my first day of classes but shortly after classes were in session I become more and more at ease with them. A particular interaction I recall took place in a music class. Music is something I know very little about, but I thought what better time to learn than now? As the class progressed on and the music material became more tedious I was also becoming more and more confused. As the professor began to bring the class to a close he said, "I will schedule a time and meet with anyone who needs help on this material." After he said this I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulder. The opportunity to meet with a professor and talk one-on-one is something students could never have at a large school. Every professor I have here at Coe College wants me to succeed and they will go out of their way to do that for me.
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering Coe?
If I could give one piece of advice to a new student on campus, I would say that Coe College is your home away from home. Coe has everything you need within reach and you will have the best time of your life.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I work out, study, attend meetings, join clubs and hang out with friends.
What is your favorite CR hangout?
Orange Leaf! The best frozen yogurt is just a hop, skip and jump down 1st avenue and I promise, you will not be disappointed!
Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it?
A lot of my friends call me "Hay."
What was the best part of being a first-year student?
One of the best parts of being a first-year is lofting your bed and finding interesting ways to get up to it. Truly though, the best part of being a first year is meeting new people. I have met people in my residence hall, people in my class or even people sitting next to me in the library. Every encounter with someone presents the perfect time to make a new friendship, even if it starts with a simple smile or inviting he or she to sit with you at lunch.
If you could bring one thing from your hometown to Coe what would it be?
While I packed up my belongings for Move-In Day I was very hesitant to bring my bear that I sleep with. My bear is a bit different looking and I didn’t want my roommate to think differently of me. After a few nights of being with my roommate, she brought back to the residence hall her very own bear. After that I knew my roommate and I would get along just fine. I went home that next weekend and I brought back my bear! Ever since then, my roommate and I have our bears every night.
How would your friends describe your personality?
My friends would describe me as a very thoughtful person. I love thinking of others and my friends mean the world to me. They would say I am outgoing and like to laugh…a lot.
