Gretchen Brumwell is principal harpist of Orchestra Iowa and an active performer around eastern Iowa. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in the area, including Orchestra Iowa and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, and performs regularly as part of Orchestra Iowa's Showcase Chamber Series.
In addition to teaching harp at Coe College, Ms. Brumwell is the harp instructor at the University of Northern Iowa, the Orchestra Iowa School, the Five Seasons Chamber Music Festival, and the Lutheran Summer Music Festival.
Ms. Brumwell holds a master's degree in harp performance from Rice University and a bachelor's degree in Bible and humanities from Grace University. While at Rice University, she was a regular substitute with the Houston Symphony and the Houston Ballet Orchestra. She has studied with Mary Bircher, Paula Page, and the legendary Alice Chalifoux.
