Coe’s creative writing Program, based in the English department, offers courses in fiction, poetry and playwriting. Creative writing at Coe focuses on the workshop method, which emphasizes writing and peer-reviewing student-authored texts.
- Creative writing majors have many opportunities to become involved in writing and publishing. Students can work on the newspaper (The Cosmos) and several literary magazines: The Coe Review, a journal of poetry and fiction; Colere, a journal devoted to writing about cultural exploration; and The Pearl, a journal of student- written non-fiction.
- Every member of the creative writing faculty is a published, professional writer and most have continued active writing for publication throughout their careers: publishing novels, poetry, short stories, plays, essays, reviews, journalism and several other genres.
- Students are encouraged to study off-campus. Creative writing majors frequently take advantage of Coe’s ACM: London and Florence Program and intern with publishing houses, editors and literary agents on Coe’s New York Term.
