As a member of AmeriCorps, you have the opportunity to serve non-profit and public agencies to build a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility. You will learn about yourself and the world around you in new and exciting ways. Gaining experience and memories, you will carry AmeriCorps with you for years to come. After you have finished your service, you will receive an education award to cover your current education, future college expenses, or pay back student loans. 300 hours of service receives a $1000 Education Award. 450 hours of service receives a $1,250 Education Award. The following activities count toward your hours: off campus work study positions at non-profit agencies, service-learning placements, internships at qualified locations, alternative break trips, volunteer placement, and student service organizations. The Arc: Movin' and Groovin' Fitness Class (Bi-Weekly)
Support individuals with disabilities ages 12+ live a healthy lifestyle by exercising! Groups will do dance class, kickboxing, walk around the track, play basketball, and more from 6:00 - 8:00pm every other Tuesday at Coe. Student Contact: Stephanie Fredrickson (sifredri@coe.edu).
Children of Promise (Bi-Weekly)
Children of Promise connects children with incarcerated parents who attend Johnson Elementary School with a pro-social caring adult mentor. The program targets those between the ages of 6-12 (and their siblings). Through these mentoring relationships they seek to increase the likelihood of regular school attendance and academic achievement, while decreasing self-destructive and violent behavior. Students plan activities bi-weekly for the group to come Coe College for exposure to higher education. Student Contact: Nicole Thiher (nthiher@coe.edu).
Four Oaks: The Bridge Reading Program (Weekly)
Many of the students at Four Oaks need individual attention in reading. Coe students will be paired with Four Oaks students to assist them with their reading. Students from Coe can choose any afternoon of the week to attend from 3:30 - 5PM. Student Contact: Caitlin Gustafson (cjgustaf@coe.edu).
Garfield Elementary School: Reading Program
Students at Garfield Elementary School need extra assistance in reading. On a day of their choosing, Coe students can spend time in a classroom at Garfield reading to students or assisting the teacher. Student Contact: Ariel Landwehr (anlandwehr@coe.edu).
Garnett Place: Bingo (Weekly)
Students will have the opportunity to assist residents who are elderly play Bingo or call Bingo at Garnett Place, a retirement community. Bingo is offered three times a week: Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Student Contact: Michala Price (mmprice@coe.edu).

McKinley Middle School Tutoring Program (Weekly)
McKinley Middle School has a period of the day called "Core Skills" in which students who need extra attention in math, reading, or language arts works with teachers to help get them up to level. Monday or Thursday from 2:00 - 3:00 pm students from Coe will have the opportunity to serve as a tutor to students in a core skills class. Student Contact: Michala Price (mmprice@coe.edu).
Mission of Hope: Shelter and Community Center Cleaning (Monthly)
Mission of Hope is a local shelter and community center on 1st Avenue. They need deep cleaning of the facilities once a month. Groups of students will help clean from 1:00 - 4:00pm. Student Contact: Kelly Carlblom (kscarlbl@coe.edu).
Polk Elementary School: Backpack Program (Weekly)
The Backpack program is a joint effort between Coe College, Polk Elementary, and HACAP. The purpose of the program is to supply weekend snacks and meals to children receiving free or reduced lunch who attend Polk Elementary. Weekly from 2:30 - 3:30 on Thursday's in Lower Gage students can help assist fill backpacks with food and deliver them to Polk Elementary. Contact: Evonne Butikofer (vista1@coe.edu).

Polk Elementary: Girl Scouts (Weekly)
Girl Scouts is an outreach program at Polk Elementary for K-6th grade girls who are seen as in need of the program. The girls have snacks and participate in activities organized by the Girl Scouts leader. It is held weekly on Thursday's at Polk Elementary. Student Contact: Caitlin Gustafson (cjgustaf@coe.edu).
St. Luke's
Students can volunteer in various areas of St. Luke's Hospital (depending on their interest area) at various times weekly. Student Contact: Stephanie Fredrickson (sifredri@coe.edu).
Taylor Elementary School: Recess Buddies (Weekly)
Taylor School was severely affected by the Flood of 2008. Due to the flood, they are short staffed and need assistance during recess time for supervision and for college students to act as "buddies" for the elementary students. Recess Buddies takes place on Tuesday's. Student Contact: Katy Heater (ceheater@coe.edu).
Volunteer Reception Center: Flood Recovery (Monthly)
Students can spend their Saturday working on a flooded home, cleaning up yards of flooded homes, or help with rebuilding. Student Contact: Ariel Landwehr (alandwehr@coe.edu).
In the spring of 2009, students and staff traveled to Washington D.C. to engage in service and outreach. In 2010, students, faculty, and staff will travel to a new site to serve a new community over spring break.
Sun., March 7th - Sat., March 13th, 2010 students will be traveling to Moab, Utah to work with the Plataeu Restoration, Inc . The seven day adventure will include doing five days of conservation work in the canyon lands, six nights of fun filled camping, and one free day which will include either be a rafting river trip on the Colorado River or a hiking tour of Arches National Park. Applications will be sent out via Campus e-mail Monday, October 5th and will be due Monday, October 19th.
