Oostendorp named National Coach of the Year

Oostendorp

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe head wrestling coach John Oostendorp was named the 2008 National Wrestling Coach of the Year Saturday night. All coaches at the 2008 NCAA Championships submitted a vote.

Second-year Assistant Coach Dustin Hinschberger was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year.

As a team, the Kohawks capped off the best year of wrestling in school history. Along with the two national coaching honors, Coe named five All-Americans, the most in school history, and crowned its first National Champion in sophomore Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North Linn). Burkle finished the year with a perfect 36-0 record.

Coe placed second at the Iowa Conference Championships, it's highest in school history. At last weekend's NCAA Championships, the Kohawks earned their first trophy at the national meet, earning fourth place.

The Kohawks will return seven of their 10 starters from this year's squad next season.
